Karen Refugee Ministries
This website is for those interested in - or involved with - ministry to the Karen Tribe Refugees in Utah.
The Karen people of Southeast Asia are an ethnic group enduring religious persecution and an ethnic cleansing program in eastern Burma. Between 500,000 to 1 million Karen people live in hiding within Burma. Over 150,000 live in nine refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border. Thousands more live in refugee-like situations in Thailand and Burma.
Tens of thousands of Karen have come to the U.S. since 2006 with many hundred located here in Salt Lake City. Over 200 more Karen families are expected here over the next few months.
